Threads of Identity: A Journey Woven from Serendipity and Heritage

Sometimes, the most transformative ventures begin with a simple phone call and an unforeseen spark of inspiration. It was October 2023, just before the glow of Diwali lit up the streets, when Pavna—my co-founder at Threads of Identity—reached out, restless and eager for collaboration. She announced she was coming to my factory to talk shop, little knowing that our meeting would be the genesis of something remarkable.

In the hum of our workspace, an offhand comment shifted our trajectory: I was designing and manufacturing bespoke prints for corporate clients, while Pavna was providing them with fresh silhouettes. Why, we mused, not create our own label? Thus, out of a spontaneous exchange, Threads of Identity was born. Our partnership wasn’t new—we’d been introduced by a mutual friend and had worked together developing prints and garments for both corporate titans and retail stores. We understood each other’s rhythms, values, and creative zeal.

Pavna confided that she had long dreamt of launching her own label but hadn’t yet found the right collaborator. For my part, I yearned to carve out an identity independent of my family’s textile legacy, to channel my passion for Indian textiles and prints into something truly distinct. In that moment, our aspirations aligned, and soon we found ourselves in Jaipur, brainstorming silhouettes, prints, and the debut collection that would define Threads of Identity.

But why the name “THREADS OF IDENTITY”? For me, textiles are not just a profession—they are a living inheritance. My grandfather, with his discerning eye for detail and deep reverence for Indian fabrics, passed this passion down to me. Textiles were the common thread that wove us together, shaping my sense of self and connecting me to my roots in a profound way. Through his mentorship, I learned that textiles are more than material; they are tradition, science, and artistry intertwined. This heritage inspired me to name the label “Threads of Identity”—a tribute to the legacy that defined and nurtured my own.

Launching our first collection was an exercise in both excitement and uncertainty. Should we embrace western, Indo-western, or Indian silhouettes? One thing was clear: as seasoned insiders in the textile industry, we had access to authentic sources and a network built from the ground up. We were determined to offer our clients quality, original prints, and 100% genuine fabrics—all while remaining accessible. So, we presented all three silhouettes and observed what resonated with our audience and with us as creative partners. Our initial offerings—Neela, Pleats, Dastakar, and Bagh—were born amidst a flurry of decisions about sizing, production, logistics, and packaging. The learning curve was steep, but the reception—both online and at pop-ups and exhibitions—was nothing short of phenomenal. It was affirmation that our leap of faith had been more than worthwhile

And so, that is the story of how Threads of Identity came to be—a brand born from heritage, collaboration, and a shared vision. To discover more about the people behind the label, stay tuned for our next editorial.
